• 5:45 pm : Wednesday night Ride These are leaderless rides of 18-22 miles, with most riders beginning about 5:45 p.m. (some earlier, some later depending on preference and pace) leaving from Rio Plaza, 6205 Upper Valley Rd (at Artcraft). The most popular route is a 20-mile loop to Gadsden H.S. Optional dinner afterward at Hello Pizza, 1071 Country Club (River Run Plaza).

• 8:30 am : Cinco de Mayo Ride Meet at Madeline Park in Kern Place (Baltimore at Kern). Ride to Hondo Pass via Scenic Drive and McKelligon Canyon. 25 miles, moderate (16-18 mph) pace. Sylvia Mejia, (915) 740-9033.

B/IG Interval Training

Interval Training

On this ride we will introduce interval training to build endurance and strength. Program starts at 5:45pm and the ride takes off at 6:00pm. All riders should be there at least 15 minutes early. About the B/IG Program

Everyone is welcome to join the B/IG program. If you are just getting into cycling, want to learn more about the sport, or would like to meet new friends to ride with then the B/IG ride is for you. B/IG rides are designed to be both educational and fun. Each week before the ride a different cycling related topic is presented. Topics range from riding in a group to bicycle maintenance and repair. Riding skills are discussed and practiced while out on the ride that follows.

• 7:30 am : The Blessed 3-in-1 Three distances at three different paces, all scheduled to arrive at The Bean in Mesilla at the same time. Group 1 meets at 7:30 a.m. at Rio Plaza (Artcraft at Upper Valley), leaving no later than 7:40 to ride the 64 miles (round-trip) to Mesilla at 20+ mph. Leader: Randy Limbird, (915) 328-4110. Group 2 meets at 7:30 a.m. at coffeehouse across from La Union Station, leaving promptly at 7:45 for 50-mile (round-trip) ride at about 17 mph. Leader TBA. Group 3 meets at 8 a.m. in La Mesa across from Eagle Grocery, leaving promptly at 8:15 for 24-mile (round-trip) ride at about 14 mph. Leader: Tony Casas. After coffee/snack break, groups will return at roughly similar paces.

Sunday, May 12
• 8:00 am : B/IG 2nd Distance Ride Leave from Rio Plaza for 38-40 mile Upper Valley Ride. Start out on back roads past the Anthony Country Club to La Mesa and return via Hwy 28. Pace will be very intermediate at 14-16. This is the second distance ride for Beginning/Intermediate Group riders, who will have opportunities to work their way to a full century ride by September. • 8:30 am : Lower Valley Loop Meet at Cotton-Eyed Joe’s at the I-10 Clint Exit for ride through Lower Valley, including Tornillo and San Elizario. 35 miles, moderate (16-18) pace. Jim Weaver, (915) 775-9757.

B/IG ABC Quick Check

ABC Quick Check and Quick Tips for Bike Maintenance

This program will teach fundamental bicycle maintenance and present of list if things to check before you head off on your bike. Program starts at 5:45pm and the ride takes off at 6:00pm. All riders should be there at least 15 minutes early. Meet at Rio Plaza at Artcraft & Upper Valley. • 8:00 am : Roads Less Traveled Meet at Johnny Lolita’s coffeehouse in La Union (NM 28 at S. Vinton Rd.; park next to Vinton Rd fence). Explore newly discovered (by Bob) roads in Upper Valley. Moderate, B/IG-friendly pace (15-17 mph). 25-30 miles. Bob Clark, (915) 204-2531.

Sunday, May 19
• 8:00 am : Las Cruces Adventure Meet at Las Cruces Municipal Parking Lot (South of the Bean) for moderate pace (+/- 15 mph) ride East to University Golf Course, out Dripping Springs, then North on new Sonoma Ranch Parkway rollers, crossing Hwy 70 to Del Rey, crossing I-25 at Thorpe, then West to Valley Highway, returning South to the Bean. B/IG Lesson/Program Meet at Rio Plaza, 6205 Upper Valley Rd. Basic lesson on road biking followed by ride through Upper Valley roads. May 21 program is on Hill Climbing. • 6:30 am : KLAQ Balloonfest Ride KLAQ has moved the location of its annual Balloonfest to Snow YMCA off of Westside Drive, so we are changing our starting location to River Run Plaza (1071 Country Club Rd). We'll ride to see the mass ascension of hot air balloons, then do a loop ride that goes north, east, and south in the upper valley before returning to River Run. About 25 miles, moderate B/IG-friendly pace (15-17 mph). Bob Clark, (915) 204-2531.

• 7:30 am : Westside Workout Meet at Bagel Shop, 985 N. Resler, for a roller-coaster ride up and down the hills of West El Paso. 30 miles, moderate-plus pace. Rick Rivas, (915) 867-7199.

Tuesday, May 28
B/IG Lesson/Program Meet at Rio Plaza, 6205 Upper Valley Rd. Basic lesson on road biking followed by ride through UpperValley roads. May 28 program is on Rules for the Road/Road Hazards Learn basic traffic laws and how to ride with traffic including which lane you should be in when making a turn, common and not so common courtesies between cyclists and motorists.
